The Information Systems Academy offers two programs of study: Drafting/Illustrative Design and Computer Diagnostic/Network Support. Curriculum in both tracks will prepare students for industry-standard certification exams. Students in the Drafting/Illustrativee Design program study engineering and architectural drawings related to manufacturing, construction, transportation, energy and power, and information and communication technologies. They create drawings and illustrations using traditional board drawing, CADD (computer-assisted drafting & design),& web-based techniques. Students in the Computer Diagnostic/Network Support program learn the technical language of the computer industry, PC diagnostics and maintenance, installation, configuration, and operation of LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks in the small office/home office (SOHO) market.
Labs in the academy building include furniture specifically designed for the courses of study. The drafting lab is equipped with drafting tables and computers with AutoCAD software. The computer diagnostics lab has computer tutorials to assist the students in developing the expertise tested by the A+ certification exam. The networking lab will be equipped with Cisco courseware. The Advanced Applications in Technology lab will be equipped with a variety of modules in robotics, CAD/CAM/CNC, and electronic control systems.
The members of the Information Systems Advisory Board review the curriculum and equipment selected for the courses of study offered in the academy. Their general task is to provide guidance and support in the selection of equipment and curriculum and as a community resource in determining the courses of study and selection of job shadowing and interning positions.
